Welcome To Our New Minister!
A warm welcome was extended to Rev Ricky Reid and his lovely wife Yvonne at an Induction Service held in Foveran Church on Thursday 3rd October. A thought-provoking service was followed by tea and homebakes in the Hall where Ricky and Yvonne were officially welcomed by the congregation, and thanks was given to those who have helped us over the vacancy period. We are now looking forward to having Ricky & Yvonne with us for the next stage of our journey as a church.
Messy Church on Sunday 23rd June was along the theme of Jonah. There were lots of activities – none TOO messy this week – including the opportunity to experience what it was like inside the belly of the whale!
It was followed by the Sunday School Picnic in Foveran Park, for which the rain stayed off thankfully! We had a lovely picnic and plenty of games and races to tire everyone out.
The Variety Concert held in the Church Hall on 15th June was packed out and was another opportunity for local talent to be celebrated. The line-up included Newburgh Mathers Singing Club led by Doreen Astley and Foveran Church Choir led by Christine Fordyce, amongst others. £325 was raised for Christian Aid on the night.
‘Newburgh’s Got Talent’, a talent show held in May for locals to show off while raising funds for a trip to Africa for some of our young folk this summer, was great fun. Many hidden talents were revealed – including Andy Gillespie and Alistair Cruickshank’s ability to change into Murphy and Myra!
Our April Messy Church was full of lots of fun things to do and make along the theme of mountains and what you think about at the top of one. We carved the ten commandments into bars of soap, made prayer bottles and walked in paint to name a few of the activities.
Our Easter Service up Gallows Hill was lovely. The weather was sunny and clear – if a bit chilly! There was a time of worship and we spoke and thought about the real meaning of Easter and what Jesus went through for us all. Then the enthusiastic rolling of some lovely decorated eggs took place. This year the winners were: 1st Jessica Jubb, 2nd Alfie Stander and 3rd Isla Burns.
Breakfast was then served for the climbers in the church hall, before the Easter Day service in church where the results of the decorated egg competition were announced: 1st Sadie Smith, 2nd Daisy Bradford and 3rd Bonnie. Well done all!
Messy Church on Sunday 17th March was great fun! There were the usual sweetie-based activities as well as some particularly messy ones including squirting paint onto a table from a syringe… The message this time was about Easter, and the children made some beautiful decorated crosses (see below).
